Kicking cancers ass, one day at a time

Author Archives: Amanda

Had a bad day.

Unfortunately today did not get any better.  He was in severe pain all day.  Between the nurses, the oncologist, the orthopedic surgeon, and me we bugged Dr. Harron to death today.  He did finally give Josh another steroid tonight and is letting him had some stronger pain meds.  This morning the surgery was set for …

We had a bad night

Around 1am Josh woke me up moaning.  He said his head hurt but it hurt where the tumor was and it was the worst pain ever.  We got some pain meds but I stayed up watching him all night because of his risk for seizures.  His Dilantin level needs to be between 10-20 and his …

We are still not sure what will happen to the brain tumor. We expect IU to say take it out …

Lunchtime update

Dr Harron came in this morning and agreed to have Josh moved to 10south, the oncology unit until the surgery.  We requested to see Dr. Fintel today since he was the doctor on the oncology floor.  We have seen him a couple other times since May and we really like him.  Since Dr. Schertz is …

Here we go again….

Last night Josh called me when he got off at 5pm and said that in the past few minutes he has because uncoordinated again, like last time before the brain tumor was discovered.  I called and paged Dt. Harron (the brain surgeon) because Dr. Schertz is on vacation.  Dr. Harron didn’t call back within a …

Goodbye 2008

And so another year came to a close…as I sit here reflecting back over 2008 I look ahead to 2009 with hope…courage…..determination! Yesterday Josh went to his last doctor’s appointment of the year; he had a follow-up with the brain surgeon who has released him from all restrictions.  He doesn’t have to see Dr. Harron …

The cost of a brain surgeon: $10,000 The cost of the brain surgery: $50,000 Getting to see the look on Josh’s face as Zoe rubs his head just 1-1/2 weeks after brain surgery….priceless!
