The biopsy

Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever

An ultrasound, more labwork, and a biopsy were scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2008. At this point Josh and I were basically in a whirlwind of emotions, we didn’t know what to think or do. Our family doctor really did his best to speed things up. The ultrasound of the testicle was very interesting to say the least. The whole left testicle was basically a mass of cancer. Thankfully though the cancer was consumed in the left testicle.

The biopsy wasn’t scheduled until 6:30 that night so it was a very long nerve-wracking day for the both of us. They did their best to calm Josh’s nerves but he is terrified of needles and understandably terrified of them inserting a long needle into his spleen while he was awake! The didn’t take him back until about 7 and by 8:15 they were done and he was okay. They were going to keep him for a while since his spleen was bleeding. Since the spleen filters your blood bleeding from the spleen can be very dangerous. They repeated another ct to check the status of the bleeding at 10:15 but it had not changed so they kept him overnight to monitor him and to repeat another CT in the morning. Josh was in a severe amount of pain and was up off and on all night. I was up in pain most of the night too. That day my stomach had been hurting and it had gradually got worse. The next morning as soon as Josh woke up I called his grandma to come stay with him so I could go see the doctor. Once she got there I left. At Josh’s next CT the bleeding had stopped and the doctor said that he could go home; however, he wasn’t released until about 5 that night. At my doctors appointment that afternoon my lab work showed that my white blood cell count was really high so I was sent straight to the hospital for a ct of my abdomen to rule out appendicitis. The CT showed that my appendix was fine but the doctor wanted to keep me overnight and do an ultrasound of my gallbladder the next morning. I asked her to schedule the ultrasound but I was not staying, after all I needed to take care of Josh. Josh’s grandma ended up staying with him at our house that night while I stayed at my moms in case I was contagious. The next morning I had my ultrasound that showed some
“sludge” in my gallbladder. I think it was sludge along with nerves. I mean just a few days ago my life was turned upside down.
